Scrolling all the way down my news app, I purposely look for stories about this day…which will live in infamy……or will it. All the way at the bottom of the app, I finally find a short story about the last 12 living survivors of the attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec 7th. There’s no Presidential Wreath Laying or grand ceremony, just a short mention of the last survivors.
I believe this day is slipping from the collective memory of America, soon to become another footnote in history. Yet my parents were alive when it happened and we collectively remember as a family.
The attack happened and the war raged then ended. But the heroism and change to the American psyche cannot be overlooked or forgotten. Like the Alamo and 9/11, December 7th will continue to be remembered…at least in our family.
Remember the men who were injured and perished at Pearl Harbor on this day, thus they will live on.
