About a week before we took off on our Thanksgiving (Nov) camping trip to Zion, we got an email from a family who had cruised with us that they would be in San Diego, Ca over the Thanksgiving Holidays. What to do…since Zion is pretty far from San Diego?

So we were in Zion National Park in Utah for four days of camping over the Thanksgiving holiday….having hauled our still new to us (20+ year old) trailer up with us and having just finished the semi-arduous Narrows day hike. Then we spent our last night in the Zion Lodge. We were determined to see our friends for at least a couple hours, but knew we would be wiped out that Saturday night after a drive (partway with trailer) from Zion to San Diego. So we suggested breakfast at a favorite place in San Diego. We were determined to get there!
Getting the Rivian off slow charging around 5am, we were loaded and packed out of the room back into the Rivian by about 6am and hooked up to the trailer. We were heading southwest, back into Arizona, Nevada and Southern California. This would be a really long day of driving, but we knew that….so we just did it.

Needless to say, pulling the trailer made for a longer slower drive, but we decided to drop it off at home then drive another three hours to San Diego, so we did. The drive went on…and on. But the drive was worth it. On Sunday morning we were able to meet our friends at a favorite place for breakfast and a few hours of catch-up, rekindling and reinforcing old friendships. Funny, because in the last eight months alone, we’ve seen friends from three different boats we cruised with, always sparking those fast friendships again.
