Day 1 was a blur of flying, airport, bus through Athens, hotel....awe at finally seeing a world icon...The Parthenon.

Getting on the ground in Athens Greece is exactly what it sounds like.  Our Air Canada Flight landed in Athens and we met our Guide, Phavlos.  Once through the main part of the airport, we were able to stop for cold drinks, bathroom and an ATM; then we continued to our bus.  On the bus, we headed into Athens toward our hotel…where we unloaded our luggage and got our room assignments.  We were in Greece!

Our bus, on the way through Athens. This view would change the next day once the other group joined….many more people on the bus.
Hmm, we’re not in Kansas anymore. The elevators in this hotel worked…but they were very, very narrow, built for just two or three people and not much luggage.

Those stairs are a lot steeper and narrower than they look in the picture.
Athens from the rooftop bar of our hotel.

A mural in Athens.
And the Parthenon from our hotel rooftop.
An ancient ruin lit up at night, taken from the rooftop bar of our hotel.

The first day was a whirlwind, a bit of a blurred memory because of the long flight and just getting into another country.  That night at dinner we met the other Southern California group who would be doing the entire trip with us, then settled down for some rest before getting up the next morning to start our trip through the Peloponnese.
