Let’s get this out of the way first: Use this post for information or entertainment only, please do not use this post for navigation.
The first time we found La Ramada Cove, we were actually intent on anchoring and hanging out at San Juanico, but there was southerly swell and wind. This combination means north San Juanico (the most popular part of the bay) is basically untenable and we were not smart enough to just go over to the south side of the bay. So we scrambled to find another anchorage, settling on La Ramada. We headed over there, around the headland….about another hour of motoring for us but we were glad to round the point, getting out of the southerly swells and wind. La Ramada was flat…well protected from the same southerly winds and swells. As we did our usual wide approach, we were surprised to see a paddle boarder urgently paddling back to his sailboat…until we observed that he was naked. Like starkers…very nude. This didn’t bother us at all. Tulum was a big heavy sailboat with a loud bunch and a Great Dane….so we usually anchored a bit further out than most folks…in deeper water. This time we did just that. After anchoring and taking stock of the other three boats in the anchorage (now four total), we noticed a bit of a trend. All three sailboats seemed full of naked people….mostly on the large catamaran that was closer to shore, anchored over the clear white sand nearer the beach. We were totally ok with all this, we just didn’t let the kids use the binoculars. So, La Ramada became Nudie Cove. We would visit La Ramada several more times and we loved it every time. When we found cell, we did a bit of research and figured out that the catamaran might have been a “clothing optional” charter catamaran, hanging out in La Ramada because it’s more remote (it was 2020). Not sure, but we really didn’t care and it just added some interesting spice to our days. All three boats left in the next couple days.

During the times we visited La Ramada….we were there to hang out or use it a jumping-off spot to make the trek to Conception Bay and back. One of the times we were in La Ramada we did a hike over to San Juanico to check out the million dollar houses and hang our momento on the cruisers tree.

Here’s more info:
Ease of anchoring: We anchored over a sand in 18-24 feet of water.
Noise at anchor: None.
Provisioning: Yes, if you walk across and through to San Juanico then to the farm.
Cellular reception at anchor: None.
Wifi in the anchorage: None
Water Clarity: Clear water till the afternoon. Lots of rays in the sand.
Protection: Good protection from the south, and east. If you tuck in closer to the beach, there’s decent protection from the west. No protection from wind or swells from the north. If a northerly came up, I would go to San Juanico.
Bugs: Maybe on the beach at dusk/at night.
Beach: Yes, there’s white sand and rocky beaches.
Would We Go Back: Yes, there was decent snorkeling and good hiking.
I wanna say this—- The days we sat anchored in La Ramada with those folks who chose less clothing than others….we were not offended nor did we care in the least. And our kids were not stunted for life and we didn’t shelter them from the fact that folks live their lives without clothes sometimes. I think it’s pretty chill actually….and seems to be very freeing. So, if you or someone you know hung out in Nudie Cove and went without clothes, cool….no worries. Since we have kids with us on most of our travels, we tend to wear clothes most of the time…..each to their own.
