Zion- Day 4, Zion Lodge

Written somewhere in Canada, on a road trip.

Day 4 in Zion National Park.  The day before we had done a goal hike into the Narrows on Thanksgiving Day and been able to prepare a complete Thanksgiving meal over the open fire and the two working burners in our tent trailer.  Life was good.

Day 4 dawned bright and early as we knew we needed to strike camp and move up through Zion Canyon to the prestigious Zion Lodge.  We took off up to the lodge early to get permission to bring our small tent trailer up there with us (which they approved) and make reservations for dinner.

 * Reservations are key up here because it’s crowded….so if you want to stay in the Zion Lodge or have dinner at their restaurant,,,,make reservations ahead of time. 

After a brief stop at the lodge for these housekeeping items, we headed back down to the campsite to get it cleaned up, finish packing and get the trailer taken down.  This was easy as the crew knew we were headed for a shower and warm bed….so things went quickly.  Moving along, we towed the trailer up to the lodge, found an out of the way place to leave it and staked out the EV charger (at Zion Lodge).  There’s only one (the second one was broken) so it could be a scrum to get on that charger.  After dropping the trailer and checking in (but the room wasn’t ready)….we headed down to town to check things out, get some lunch and do some light shopping.  After we were done, we came back to the lodge and hauled our stuff to the room. 

The rooms at Zion Lodge were clean and functional, with a nice balcony to sit on.  The building and the hallways reminded me a bit of the Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite. 

That evening we had a very nice dinner at the restaurant at the Zion Lodge, which was worth the money spent.  Late in the evening, I drove around the hotel to see if the EV charger was free, to find a Tesla just leaving.  It’s a slow charger, so I plugged in and let it charge all night, coming back about 5 in the morning to take it off charging to move it back and pack it up.  We were leaving once again to do a huge drive….next post.
