Exactly One Year- A Lot Has Happened

“Happy 4th of July 2023”   

One year ago today, Tulum-5 was sitting off an island in northern Panama with our buddy boat, trying to get something cooked for a few hours of 4th of July celebration before the wind came back into the island.  We had come down the coast of Mexico and Central America on time but stayed too long in a couple places (waiting on parts)….so we were coming south down the coast of Panama in early July….too late.  This wasn’t the start of the rainy season like we tried to delude ourselves into thinking…it had already started.  So What?

The “So What” is that the weather had become unstable and fluky and we were getting much more wind from the wrong directions than the various computer weather models showed us.  But we tried our best to celebrate 4th of July 2022 even for a few hours.  

One year later….a lot has changed.  We sold Tulum-5 in Panama in February, then flew to Florida where we bought a bus (skoolie) and then took a nice slow roadtrip across the United States.  This allowed us to think through where we might want to set up a home base….as we’ll never stop traveling.  We’ve bought a home base and have put the Green Machine (skoolie) up for sale.

It’s been nice to be able to establish a home base and know that we can travel from here and come back.  We took our first trip out of here, camping most of the way.  We went through at least 6 national parks and a handful more national monuments, getting all the way up to Montana and back.  I’m loving the camping and roadtripping and look forward to our next trip as the summer heat cools, working on the home base when we’re not out traveling slowly.
