Come meet Daisy, an old breed of dog being brought forward in time as the breeders work toward full AKC registry.

This is Daisy, our newest family member.  She’s NOT a Neapolitan Mastiff, but she certainly looks like it.  Under all that skin and wrinkles, her story goes back in time before the Romans used these dogs, before Alexander the Great imported their forbearers to Greece to create the original mastiff.  Daisy is part of a resurrection of an ancient breed of dog that came out of ancient Iraq, called the Molossus.  Technically called an American Molossus, the breed is being brought to life again less than two hours from us..by a man named Marcus Curtis in Riverside, Ca.

His website, www.OldWorldMolossus has a ton of information and history to check out.

You can also check out this episode of Animal Watch, that features this dog and the man working on the breed.

We purposely made the decision to get another puppy while she was very young so that she could bond with Max (who’s still a puppy), get the puppy years over with all at once…(so we don’t have to go through another set of puppy years for a long time and get to know the cats and the donkeys while she’s young and grow up around our house.  We want the new puppy to know she’s not the largest creature on the property and we want her to now up with a respect for other animals….cause we’re going to have chickens eventually as well.  Raising a puppy with respect for other animals isn’t something that can be taught, I think it must be learned, so we’ll take it step by step.  But right now, we have a cuddly, very young ball of fur in the house that will grow at about 7 pds a week, starting to get bigger and bigger as we raise her.  In the next month, she’ll be large enough to start playing with Max and we’ll start gradual intros to the kitties.

PS: Have a very SWIFT Super Bowl!

  1. Good Day, you all are doing well I gather.
I’m happy for your growth of animals to your family. So much fun. I am wondering how Quincy is adjusting to the additions.

We are currently living in Kirkwood, Ca. Unexpected life events lead us here. The valley is something special, for certain.

Take good care of each other.

    Cheers,
    Miss Carrie.
