After a long days drive into Logan (UT) then a decent meal and heavenly sleep in a motel room, we were ready for this next days drive straight down the state to our last night of tent camping on the trip. We had embarked two weeks earlier on an ambitious mix of tent camping and roadtripping with our kids; so by this time we all sensed our trip winding down….we would all look back fondly on this trip.
As drive days went on this trip, this wasn’t a bad drive day as we headed straight due south down the state of Utah. We were able to go through Salt Lake City at a good time to avoid traffic and crossed our path again when we passed the 89 in Spanish Fork. It wasn’t a terrible long drive since we were able to mostly drive interstate freeway on this day (15) and made Nephi just after mid-day.

Getting into Nephi, we exited the interstate and started up the canyon, eventually finding the gorgeous Ponderosa Uinta Campground tucked up into the woods and blessfully shaded. We had booked a site that turned out to be perfect for our one night there, but wanted to explore further. We took off in the truck again to look around, opting to drive Nebo Loop Road to take a look at things. Little did we know that the road had just been opened (that year) the same morning and was closed at Devils Kitchen Outlook, right where we parked. As we parked, we spoke to a ranger who was just opening the restrooms at the outlook, where the road gate was still closed to traffic. We were pretty lucky to have gotten to get to that point, what beauty awaited us on the short hikes we did.

After a heavenly night of sleep listening to the trees rustle in the wind and watching the stars, we headed out the next day for the last long drive of the trip, to visit Vegas. Our kids had never been to Las Vegas so we grabbed a hotel off the strip and showed them around a bit, taking in a great meal and celebrating Fathers Day in style. Then, it was time for our drive back to Southern California.
If you can’t tell from reading the posts I’ve written about this trip, we LOVED the trip and have fond memories to this day. There was ALOT of driving. There was some rain and cold weather. But we had the right gear and we chose to be in those places and be in that weather.
Ok….that’s it, last post about this grand roadtrip, please read ALL our other posts and give us a bunch of likes!
